About Us

It was a scary night back on August 6, 1970, when Steve Boomer Sutton First went on the radio. The shift was 6:15PM – 11:15PM. The radio station was WBHF-AM in Cartersville Georgia. 1,000 watts country music during the day and 250 watts Top40 music until the transmitter was turned off at 11:15PM following Mutual News and

Local News. Those were the days!

From there, the journey began.

There were stops in - Athens, GA. Marietta, GA, Rapid City, SD, and Denver, CO, before he got back to Atlanta, GA.

While back in Atlanta, Boomer worked for 96ROCK Atlanta for 5 years, before heading down to West Palm Beach, FL, up to Charlotte, NC and back down to Valdosta, Georgia. There were positions as Program Director, Assistant Program Director, and Music Director along the way.

Then, Boomer once again came back to Atlanta to stay this time, and began working at the “creative” Power99.

When Power99 changed formats, Boomer moved to Star94, Atlanta.

While working at Star94, Boomer was approached by Georgia Public Television to host an outdoors television program called “Georgia Outdoors.” It proved to be a good move by both parties. Boomer brought more of a “gentleman’s approach” to covering the outdoors not the normal “hook and bullet” programs that viewers were normally accustomed to. Getting children and their families into the outdoors has always been a high priority.
During his 5 years of hosting “Georgia Outdoors” his program was additionally broadcast in France, Italy, Germany, Greece and Spain. As host, he won not one, but two EMMY AWARDS.
